AboutDana Lavertu

Dana started his popular disc jockey service in the late 70’s while attending Husson University as a business management major. He worked full and part-time beatmixing at the Bounty Taverne (one of Maine’s most successful nightclubs) while also managing one of Maine’s largest disc jockey services for the last 30 years.

In addition to the usual wedding reception, Dana has performed at many destination wedding venues in Bar Harbor and along the Maine coastline.

My ClientsHave This to Say

The BEST decision we made during the entire wedding planning process was hiring DJ Dana Lavertu. Dana is an incredible DJ, but also SUCH a nice person! He was completely on top of his game- helped us call tables up for the buffet (something we totally forgot about!), played great music, responded intuitively to the crowd, took requests, and checked in with us a few songs towards the end to make sure we were happy. We were VERY happy! During the planning process he was professional, responsive, and very helpful! After the wedding everyone came up to us commenting on what a great DJ we had. We had to agree- Dana is the best!! The only bad part is that we live in Philadelphia and can’t hire him down here!! 🙂Jen

CommonQuestions I’m Asked

By far the first and most frequently asked question. My prices vary quite a bit depending on many factors. It’s difficult to quote a price because no two parties are alike, but in general a very broad range is as follows: General private parties are anywhere from $300 – $1500 and up.
Weddings generally start at $795 for very basic coverage and can go up to $2,000 with the average being in the $1200 range.

My music library spans at least seven decades. You can expect to hear a mix of the most danceable music that keeps your guests on the dance floor. I also offer ethnic music such and Italian, Latin, Polish, Irish, etc. You can also choose from Top 40, Golden Oldies, Philly Motown, Swing, and many others. I subscribe to several DJ music services so that I’m always up-to-date with the latest hits.

I use only commercial quality sound systems such as Yamaha, JBL and QSC are at the heart of my sound systems. I do not use iPods or other consumer quality devices because most do not meet my requirements for professional playback.

Yes, I bring several cordless microphones. For weddings, I provide a cordless mic for toast/blessings and other formalities.

You better believe it!! In fact, I am often teased by fellow DJ’s in the area for the amount of back up equipment that I carry to an event. My stance is that it’s always better to be safe than sorry, ESPECIALLY regarding a special event that you have been planning. I come prepared with backup mixers, sound and power cables, laptops, and even hard drives so that your music continues through until the end of your event.

I will be professionally dressed to fit the occasion. If it’s a wedding reception, I will be wearing a tuxedo or black suit & tie, but if you prefer a different style, I can accommodate you.

Yes! If you are working directly with a venue or vendor that requires your DJ to carry insurance before performing an event on their premise, I do have this in place and can even furnish a proof of insurance by request.

Yes. I provide an online music database and request system for you and your guests. I will base the music I play on the requests you gave us. I also honor your “do not play” list. I will also take requests at the event unless you prefer that I don’t.

Because I value the privacy of my wedding clients, it is not usually possible to have uninvited guests watch me on the job. I will not have time to answer questions as I will be focused on performing for the wedding clients. Also, keep in mind that each wedding is customized for my clients’ tastes. The songs that they chose may not work for your particular event, so this wouldn’t be the best way to get to know me. This is why I provide the opportunity to meet with you before your event, and during planning sessions if you choose. I will also show you some video and pictures from past events to give you a better feel for how I perform. You are also welcome, and encouraged to read the reviews on Wedding Wire and The Knot to get a better picture of the type of service I offer.

Yes, it is becoming more common for me to provide the ceremony music as well as the reception entertainment. If your reception or cocktail hour is in a separate room at the venue, I am capable of providing separate sound systems for each location. If your ceremony is outside, I recommend a microphone setup for the vows.

Being a single operator means that I work by myself. Hiring me, as a single operator, greatly increases the chances that your wedding will be more stress-free and less worrisome because from the time you sign a contract until the time your limousine leaves your venue, you work with just ONE person in regards to the planning and creation of your playlist.

I do not offer any add-ons or upgrades. I don’t claim to be a photographer, videographer, or lighting expert. The focus for me is making sure the playlist for your wedding is perfect. I can, however, point you in the right direction to some of the best wedding vendors in Maine to take care of any of your other wedding needs.

Nothing could be further from the truth. I WILL, with your guidance, create a classy, elegant playlist for the cocktail hour and dinner portion of the evening, and then make sure everyone is on the dance floor after dinner and after the cake is cut. Your reception can be classy and fun WITHOUT all the cheesiness and gimmicks. It’s the only way I know how to DJ a wedding.
